The end of an era.

If we're friends on FB, you saw tonight that I posted this picture:

I of course cannot find the post (if it even exists) about when we stopped using the swaddle/sling at night when she was a baby, but it was eerily similar to the pacifier situation.  I was convinced she could never sleep without it, and dragged my feet about it for weeks.  With the swaddle and sling, all it took was a middle-of-the-night wakeup, and I decided to take her out altogether.  I dismantled the whole set up, and just laid her down flat left to her own free will.  And that was it.  She slept!  Way too much thinking about it.

I had been dreading the pacifier removal for months now.  More than that.  At least a year.  It was our ultimate bargaining tool, and was always an instant way to get her to sleep.  We tried to mimic our potty-training technique which was to throw Mimi under the bus and tell her that they weren't allowed in Minnesota, but I didn't follow-through on that threat.  Then finally this weekend she was being super naughty, and we actually carried out a threat to take it away if she was indeed lying about having to go to the bathroom for the sixth time in 20 minutes.  And of course she was lying, because she didn't have to go, and we took it away.  And it's been away since then.  WTF.  The "babies" she gave them to did leave some presents for her (predictable result was an ungodly-early wakeup the first morning after removal, as she was "excited to see her presents.")  I had been hoarding clearance shit from Target for future use for the behavior chart I hadn't yet made (still haven't made) and played it off like the "babies" knew all along.

And even with this weekend's sleep disaster of a missed nap on Sunday due to our work schedules and a stupidly late bedtime due also to our work schedules, she was pretty OK.  She has not asked for it since Friday night (???????) and has just been her normal level of pain-in-the-ass during bed time (I need water, I need to go potty, my tummy hurts, I want to sit in the rocking chair, I need a band-aid, etc etc).

I can't bring myself to throw them away just yet.  It makes me so sad.  It was the last really "baby" thing she had.  My baby!

She's been growing like CRAZY these past few weeks.  Like fully out of clothes that fit her last month.  She's losing the baby chub on her legs at an alarming rate.  (My baby!).

I love the way she takes things literally.  I told her tonight that I had to finish my shower, and then we'd "get a handle on" whatever it was that she needed.  She stopped cold and said, "the door has a handle?"  There have been a few other spectacular ones but I of course cannot remember whatever it was that I swore I'd write down.

At the playground yesterday:

Pushing the big kids on the merry-go-round.  Like the swings, would rather push than ride.

Pushing the biggest kid around.  And are those f-ing DELTOIDS???

Oh, swimming lessons last week were a traumatic event, and the lesson stopped after maybe 15 minutes.  He had her lay on her back (which she hates) and she never recovered.  Swimming is completely non-negotiable, though, so we will be back in two weeks when their fall session starts.  She MUST know how to swim.

Before the lesson started.

Still before, obviously.

In lieu of dance tomorrow, though, we try music class.

On the prowl for new glasses.
